How to understand and support LGBT+ people in your community?

by Małgorzata Sobotka 06 May 2025 0 comments

Hello !

Today I would like to share with you couple of ways we can better understand and support LGBTQ+ people in our environment.

Education and empathy-The first step to understanding homosexuality is education. Take time to read articles, books or watch films on this topic. The more we know, the easier it will be for us to understand the experiences and challenges that LGBTQ+ people face. Also remember about empathy - try to put yourself in the other person's shoes and understand their point of view.

Acceptance and support-One of the most important ways to support LGBTQ+ people is acceptance. Do not judge them because of their sexual orientation, but treat them the same as everyone else. Be open to conversations and provide support when someone decides to share their experiences with you.

Fight discrimination and intolerance-Unfortunately, many LGBTQ+ people still experience discrimination and intolerance from society. Be active in the fight against homophobia and transphobia - do not allow others to be insulted or discriminated against because of their sexual orientation. Support organizations and initiatives that promote equality and acceptance.

Building a safe space-It is important for LGBTQ+ people to feel accepted and safe in our environment. Create spaces where they can be themselves without fear of negative reactions. Be open to diversity and create an atmosphere where everyone can be accepted regardless of their sexual orientation.

Educate others and promote equality-The last but not least way to support LGBTQ+ people is to educate others and promote equality. Share your knowledge and experience with others to build awareness and understanding in society. Be active in equality activities and support initiatives that strive to eliminate all forms of discrimination.

I hope that these  ways will help you better understand and support LGBTQ+ people in your environment. Remember that each of us has the right to love and respect, regardless of who we love. Be open, empathetic and active in the fight for equality for all!

See you soon!
